(1) When something had already happened at a time in the past, we use "Past Perfect Tense".

Yesterday at 8:45 pm: Amy finished her homework.
Yesterday at 9:00 pm: Amy's mother came home.
$ N& v4 W1 E& |* y, yAmy had done her homework when her mother came home at nine o'clock yesterday.

Yesterday at 3:30 pm: We went into the hospital and visited our grandma.

We had already visited our grandma in hospital when daddy called us in the afternoon yesterday.

Note:
From the above examples, you can see we often use Past Tense with Past Perfect Tense.

(2)　When we use the "Past Perfect Tense", we write the verb in this way:

1 U. {: G9 x! a+ @We always use "had" for all subjects (i.e. I, We, You, They, He, She, It).
) V: k  h2 f; o+ v! }+ y無論句子中的主語(即I, We, You, They, He, She, It)是怎樣，我們也是用 "had"這個字。

6 `0 ]- W6 X  aNote 2: What is the "past participle" of a verb? For most of the verbs, you just have to add "ed" at the end to change it into "past participle". For the others (i.e. irregular verbs), you may look up in your dictionary or check it out in this link.
